Privacy and Cookies Notice

This privacy notice sets out how Lancaster University uses and protects any information that you give when you use our application.

Lancaster University is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy notice.

Lancaster University may change this notice from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page occasionally to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This notice is effective from 26th May 2012.

1. What we do with the information we gather

This information helps us to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

  • Internal record keeping
  • We may use the information to improve our products and services
  • Other purposes which are advised at the point of collection, and in compliance with our Data Controller registration with the Information Commissioner's Office

2. Security

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. Appropriate security measures are in place to protect against loss, misuse or alteration of information collected from you, including measures to prevent, as far as possible, access to University databases by parties other than Lancaster University.

3. Controlling your personal information

You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways:

  • We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required to do so by law.

iLancaster is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. We have implemented strict data protection measures to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

When you use the iLancaster app, we may collect and process information about your location through the use of GPS and Bluetooth-powered iBeacons. This information is used to support the app's check-in feature, as well as location-based services such as the campus map, buses, events, and the "Get help on campus" feature. Your location will only be collected and used when you have given your consent by either pressing the check-in button, activating the emergency feature in "Get help on campus", or engaging with another location based service and granting location permissions consent using you OS settings.

We take the security of your personal information seriously, and take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect it against unauthorized access or alteration. Your personal information will only be shared with third parties in accordance with GDPR regulations, and only for the purpose of providing you with the services offered through the iLancaster app.

You may request details of personal information which we hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. A fee of £10 will be payable to contribute to the associated administrative costs.
